Humans have saved seeds since the beginning of time. The Grow Benzie Seed Saving Guild has been saving seeds since its formation in 2008. Two citizen seed savers who tend this project are in conversation. This outdoor program is offered as part of the GAAC’s exhibition Food Is Art / Art Is Food, in the GAAC gallery through August 19.
Food and flower seeds don’t just grow in the seed catalog, but are strategically gathered and harvested. Grow Benzie’s heritage project brings together seed enthusiasts who maintain a seed library at Grow Benzie in Benzonia. The guild offers regular events to teach how to plant for seed harvesting, save seeds, and provide a venue to share stories and all aspects of the story of the seed. GAAC Gallery Manager Sarah Bearup-Neal will talk about this ongoing project with Josh Stoltz, Grow Benzie executive director; and Becky Thatcher, project seed librarian.
