The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) “Talk About Art” series continues with host Norm Wheeler in conversation with sculptor Bill Allen on Sunday, April 9, 2 p.m. at The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor. There is no charge.
Allen is known throughout the region for his large-scale, welded steel sculpture celebrating a wide range of four-legged animals. In the early 2000s Allen began exploring other media and began creating mixed media paintings — sculptural compositions made from drift wood and other treasures he found washed up on local beaches. These works found their way into a 2010 collaborative project he undertook with Traverse City poet Fleda Brown whose poetry he used as the starting point for new works. Allen is a self-taught visual artist who lives in Maple City.
The Leelanau School is located at 1 Old Homestead Road in Glen Arbor. For more information, please call the GAAA at 231/334-6112, or go to the GAAA website: glenarborart.org.
