Taylor Moore, program manager of Food Rescue of Northwest Michigan, is in conversation about how this Traverse City organization feeds people and supplies food pantries with fresh, healthy food. This outdoor program is offered as part of the GAAC’s exhibition Food Is Art / Art Is Food, in the GAAC gallery through August 19.
Since 2008, Food Rescue has collected soon-to-expire, fresh, healthy food from groceries, restaurants, and food processors. With a network of volunteers, it distributes this reclaimed harvest, and distributes it to the Northwest Food Coalition’s 70-plus food pantries and community meal sites. Food is delivered the same day it’s picked up, and provided at no cost to its distribution partners. Food Rescue of Northwest Michigan is a project of Goodwill Northern Michigan.
