Park Partner Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear celebrates the annual Michigan Log Cabin Day this year by highlighting the Boekeloo Cabin, one of six log cabins on the mainland in the Park.
Stuart Boekeloo is a descendant who will be on-site to share history and stories of his family’s time at the cabin.
Check out Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear’s preservation of the cabin, having restored the windows, door, bridge and property fence, and replaced and repaired logs. Location: The cabin is set at the end of a two mile two-track in the Platte River area of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. A peaceful location on a cranberry bog with a path from the cabin to Lake Michigan, it’s a hidden favorite for many.
