In the press…
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has been catching PR across the nation for years now, although we still want to protect and keep this secluded gem in the Leelanau Peninsula a secret. Despite our feelings, we’re glad to share it with the world, especially because visitors to our area help make our small businesses thrive!
Sleeping Bear Point was included in the dune walkers category in National Geographic’s list of picks for “21 Best Beaches in the World.”
About the trail & beach
The Sleeping Bear Point Trail is a 2.8 mile loop through the sand dunes with great views of Lake Michigan and South Manitou Island. There is a 0.5 mile spur hike from the trailhead to the Lake Michigan beach. It is less strenuous than the hike from the Dune Climb to Lake Michigan.
