With more than 400 park sites in the U.S., yours is probably closer than you think. Most Americans have one within 100 miles of their home.
Today, there are a total of 417 park sites across all 50 states and 5 U.S. territories, including monuments, preserves, lakeshores and seashores.
That’s 85 million acres of land and waters, 18,000 miles of trails and over 11,000 miles of shoreline to hike, bike, fish, swim or just relax and enjoy the view.
We’re pleased in Leelanau County to call the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore our “Home Park.” With the “Find Your Park” campaign, it’s easier than ever to seek recreation and exploration across the States.
For over 50 years, the National Park Foundation, the official charitable partner of the National Park Service, has been protecting and preserving America’s most magnificent and meaningful places for people all over the world to enjoy and experience.
“National parks should be accessible to all people, so they can relate to them in their own ways. These places offer something for everyone.”
~Will Shafroth, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation
