A drought-striken New Mexico town is the setting for writer Edward Helfers’s novel-in-progress. Helfers, the Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) artist-in-residence (AIR) June 1-14, will talk about work done on his tale of tourists, pilgrims and an image of Jesus Christ that appears at the base of a local church, on Thursday, June 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.
Helfers is a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland. He brought to Glen Arbor an extensive outline of the book’s plot and several draft chapters. Helfers will talk about how his GAAA residency has allowed him to pulls notes and drafts into a novel of more concrete form. He is a lecturer at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
